The Australian singer and performer will join the production by the end of the month, playing the character at certain performances for a limited 6-week run. Directed by Nikolai Foster, the show features some of the best-known songs in musical theatre history and has been an audience fave since its original run back in 1971.
He’s the one that we want! Ooh, ooh, ooh! The wait must have been long, but the date is finally just around the corner. In only two weeks, audiences will be able to see actor, singer and former teen idol Jason Donovan in the new West End production of one the most performed musicals in History. But it seems the Australian performer is far from giving away his times as adolescent craze, as for one month and a half, he’ll be stepping into the shoes (and wings) of the hilarious role of Teen Angel.
But we don’t have to wait that long to get an idea of what’s soon to come to London’s Dominion Theatre. Today, the producers have launched the first set of pictures featuring Donovan as the flamboyant character. Appearing at certain performances, the player will be joining a cast led by Dan Partridge as Danny, Olivia Moore as Sandy and Peter Andre as Vince Fontaine (on some occasions). Further credits include Jocasta Almgill as Rizzo, Paul French as Kenickie, Mary Moore as Jan, Jake Reynolds as Doody, Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly as Marty, Damon Gould as Sonny, Eloise Davies as Frenchie, Jessica Croll as Patty Simcox, among others.
With this new take directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the original production opened opened in Chicago in 1971 and later transferred to Broadway in 1972, where it received seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. An audience fave and pop culture icon following the succes of both the stage and film versions, the show has a worlwide known repertorie, with such unforgettable tunes like Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted To You and You’re The One That I Want.
Jason Donovan will give his first performance on June 29th and will stay in the production for six weeks. Tickets for the show are available on the following link.
