The actress is returning to the role she already played in the Hamburg production, which she will be sharing with Elesha Paul Moses during her stay at London’s Aldwych Theatre. Created in association with Turner herself, the show narrates the ups and downs of the rock-‘n’-roll icon through all of her most popular songs, with a current booking period extended until September next year.
They called her when they needed her and her heart’s on fire. And surely next week, it will keep burning through the passion and excitement of taking part in a show that may not so new to her, but its stage (and district) certainly are. Today, the producers of Tina, the jukebox musical narrating the ups and downs of singing icon Tina Turner’s uplifting life, have announced that Kristina Love is the next in line to play the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Having already interpreted her in Germany, Kristina is set to start on 12 October, sharing the role with Elesha Paul Moses, and accompanied by Caleb Roberts, who continues as Ike Turner.
“I am so excited and humbled to revisit such a wonderful role, having previously played Tina in the Hamburg production”, says Love. “After having met her on my birthday in 2018, performing with her and receiving her blessing at the Hamburg opening, I count it a great honour to be entrusted with performing her life story. I am grateful to be continuing my Tina journey at the same time as making my West End debut, and I can’t wait to join such an amazing and talented cast at the Aldwych Theatre.”
Developed in association with Turner herself, the piece is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, with choreographies by Anthony van Laast and set and costume designs by Mark Thompson. With its booking period now extended until 3 September 2023, the current cast also includes Paula Kay as Tina’s mother, Zelma Bullock; Charis Alexandra as Tina’s sister, Alline Bullock; George Jennings as Roger Davies; Irene Myrtle Forrester as Tina’s Grandmother; Kelly Hampson as Ike and Tina’s manager, Rhonda Graam; Gregory Haney in the role of Tina’s father, Richard Bullock, among many others.
