Mischief’s new comedy releases first rehearsal images

The company’s signature disaster dark humour returns through a new story revolving around the recording of a kids show. Directed by Henry Lewis and written by Henry Shields, the play will open at Colchester’s Mercury Theatre before transfering first to Wiltshire and later to Guildford.

Nothing like the warmth and innocence of a kids show to trigger those long-gone emotions we sometimes forget about: the need to scream your head off, that uncontrollable feeling of mortifying desperation and the irrepressible need to go on a killing spree just to let all that tension out. It’s just too beautiful to be real – but it is, as it’s the fact that Mischief’s signature dark humour is coming back to the UK stage through a brand new play. Keeping up with their storyline tradition of things that go (incredibly, absolutely, unmistakably) wrong, the team presents Good Luck, Studio, a new comedy where misfortune is something not to be avoided. A few heads are bound to roll… and a good bunch of laughs are set to be prompted.

Set during the final recording night of Wibble, the Dragon, chaos is about to be served in the last session of a production that’s way over budget and lacking a completed script. With one hour ahead to film, 16 pages to go and a bunch of impatient children ready to attack… disaster has its way golden-paved… The last thing anyone needs is a failed actor showing up with a sinister vendetta and his own dragon costume. In this kid’s TV show, more than just careers will die.

Directed by Henry Lewis and written by Henry Shields, Adam Byron (Anthony), Bryony Corrigan (Saoirse), Eboni Dixon (Pam), Jemma Geanaus (Elizabeth), Harry Kershaw (Sean), Chris Leask (Toby), Greg Tannahill (Kevin), Gareth Tempest (David Cooper-Brown), Sophia Lorenti (Michaela) and Tom Walker (Andy). The creative team, on its hand, is completed by Sara Perks designs, David Howe (lighting design), Alexandra Faye Braithwaite (sound design), Richard Baker (composition) and (Greg Tannahill) fight direction.

Good Luck, Studio opens on 5 October at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, with previews from 30 September, before transferring to Salisbury Playhouse (Wiltshire) and later to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre (Guildford). Tickets are available on the following link.
