Mike Barlett’s comedy C O C K will be returning to London for a limited run, featuring a star-studded cast. Directed by Tony and Oliver Awards winning director Marianne Eliott, the play explores self discovery and the possibilities for some people to be something else than what they had been labelled as.
Some like vanilla, some like chocolate, some like both and some others don’t even think of it. Be there as it may, that journey of self discovery can be richer and more complex than we could ever imagine. But are we really up for it, should it occur? London’s Ambassadors Theatre may provide us with the answer this season, since Mike Bartlett’s (not-so-gay) play C O C K is returning to the West End in a new version directed by Tony and Olivier award winning Marianne Elliott.
“I feel so excited to be working on this beautifully crafted and hilarious play by Mike Bartlett”, says Elliott. “It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. A truly theatrical piece in that it asks the audience to enter the imagination of the storytelling – as only live theatre can do. It’s also all about the acting so to have such a talented, highly experienced, stellar cast is an absolute dream!”. The creative team also includes designer Merle Hensel, lighting designer Paule Constable, sound designer Ian Dickinson, composer Femi Temowo and movement director Annie-Lunette Deakin-Foster, among others.
Featuring a star-studded cast, the play revolves around John (Jonathan Bailey) and gay man living happily with his boyfriend (Taron Egerton), until one day he falls for a woman! The casts previous credits include the Golden Globe award winning performance of Sir Elton John by Egerton in the feature film Rocketman, as well as the upcoming Apple TV series Blackbird. Jonathan Bailey, on the other hand, won an Olivier Award for his ground-breaking role of Jamie in the revival of Company and has also been seen on TV as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix’ period drama, Bridgerton, while Daniels’ previous theatre titles include The Merchant of Venice, The Jew of Malta and A Clockwork Orange for the RSC, This House for the National Theatre and Les Misérables in the West End. Jade Anouka has recently taken part in BBC/HBO’s His Dark Materials as Ruta Skadi, as well as Channel 5’s The Drowning and ITV’s Cleaning Up.
C O C K will play for a limited run from Saturday 5th March 2022 to Saturday 4th June 2022. Tickets are already available on the following link.
