London’s Playhouse Theatre will be transformed into the legendary 1930s Kit Kat Klub, in a new immersive version that will also star Jessie Buckley. Produced by Ambassador Theatre Group and Underbelly, the show will bring audiences the opportunity to enter its universe even before the performance begins, allowing them to explore the Berlin club from the very moment they step in.
In here, life is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, the orchestra is beautiful… And now the Playhouse Theatre is also beautiful! Kander and Ebb’s iconic musical is coming back to the West End this autumn, in a brand new immersive version that will intoxicate audiences with the enhanced allure of the Kit Kat Klub. Starring worldwide acclaimed film and theatre actor Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee and Jessie Buckley (Romeo & Juliet, A Little Night Music), the show has just launched its first photoshoot, featuring some of the members of the memorable 1930s Berlin venue, as well as their first sale of general tickets.
Produced by Ambassador Theatre Group and Underbelly, the production will allow the public to plunge into their universe even before the performance actually begins – offering them the chance to enjoy drinks, dining and pre-show entertainment all on offer. “When booking, guests will receive a ‘club entry time’ to allow enough time to take in the world of the Kit Kat Club before the show starts. But of course, the show really starts when you first join us in the club…”, say the creators. “It’s 1930s Berlin. It’s 2020s London. It’s Then, it’s Now. Who knows how long it will reside here. For now, we’re enjoying the party. The party at the end of the world”.
The show is directed by Rebecca Frecknall (the Almeida’s Olivier Award winning Summer and Smoke, The Duchess of Malfi, Three Sisters), set and costume design is by Tom Scutt (A Very Expensive Poison, Constellations, King Charles III, Jesus Christ Superstar, collaborations with Sam Smith, Christine and the Queens). The coreography, on the other hand, is by Julia Cheng, whose previous credits include founder of the House of Absolute, Philharmonia Orchestra Artist in Residence, recipient of the runner-up prize for Hip Hop Dance futures, Resident Choreographer for the Royal Academy of Dance, Judge and mentor for BBC Young Dancer and Breakin’ Convention (the UK’s biggest hip hop festival), as well as collaborations with London Fashion Week, Google and Dr Martens.
This new production of Cabaret will start performances on November 15th. General tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 10.00am with a second ticket release going on sale w/c September 6th, and can be purchased on the following link.
