The internationally acclaimed concert will be available on Freeview Channel 11 during the next two weeks – offered in three different time slots. Hosted by musical theatre legends Bonnie Langford and Trevor Dion, the gig features some of London’s finest performers in a rendition of some of the most iconic West End shows. The production, which also includes a 16-piece choir made up of musical theatre graduates, has currently raised over 100 thousand pounds for charity, and is still offering the public the chance to collaborate.
The dream is still alive. It’s been more than a year since two theatres props manufacturers managed to gather almost every major West End musical to pursue their quest – to help as many live entertainment professionals as possible to survive during the pandemic. Now, what started as simply a design for life masks, has turned into an internationally acclaimed campaign culminating in a once-in-a-lifetime event at an iconic venue. But if theatre has something to offer us that nothing else can, that would be its magic. And that’s why those who lost the opportunity to see some of London’s finest performers join forces on the same stage, will be granted a second (or even a third and a fourth) chance.
Sky Arts will broadcast The Show Must Go On during the next two weeks – to bring back the enchantment of this unforgettable concert that has already wowed fans all over the world. Filmed by the National Theatre and available on Freeview Channel 11, the event is produced by Theatre Support Fund+, which was founded during the lockdown. Having raised over a million pounds (including 100 thousand alone during the gig itself), the iniative has destined all of its profits to the charity organisations Acting For Others and Fleabag Support Fund+, which during this whole time have provided theatre workers with economic support after the closure of the venues accross the country.
Hosted by musical theatre legends Bonnie Langford (9 to 5 the Musical, 42nd Street) and Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton, Aladdin), the show’s cast and repertoire includes, among others, Marcus Harman in a performance from Dear Evan Hansen, Sharan Phull in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Trevor Dion Nicholas in Hamilton, Dom Simpson and Tom Xander in The Book of Mormon, Rhys Whitfield and Lucy St Louis and in The Phantom Of The Opera, Zizi Strallen in Mary Poppins and Mazz Murray in MAMMA MIA!. In addition, Olly Dobson can be seen in a rendition of Back to the Future The Musical and Aimie Atkinson sings a tune from Pretty Woman – The Musical – apart from a choir of 16 made up of Musical Theatre 2020 graduates.
The Show Must Go On! LIVE at the Palace Theatre will premiere on SkyArts on Sunday 18 July at 8pm, with further broadcasts on Saturday 24 July at 8.45am and Sunday 25 July at 2pm.
