The producers have recognised the achievements made by the London version during its course at the Savoy Theatre, which was extended twice due to public demand. The show, which will tour around the UK again in 2020, is confirmed to be replicated during the following years in Australia and South Africa, with negotiations for other countries currently under way.
For service and devotion, for using their minds and to really give them credit, today one of London’s mainstream shows is commemorating its stay at the Savoy Theatre. And although the closure of Theatreland has meant a short cut to Parton’s juke-box musical, which was due to end on May 23rd, the producers still have some remarkable figures to feel satisfied with, as the play has been seen by over half a million people at more than 450 performances.
“On behalf of all the producers, we are so proud of the London cast and crew who have achieved so much”, says producer Adam Speers. “Co-writer Patricia Resnick, Director Jeff Calhoun and the team at ATG Productions worked with Dolly and I to create a show so full of humour, energy and of course great songs! It filled the audiences with joy, at a time we all really needed it and will do so again. Theatre is all about bringing people together and we are very excited to share the joy of 9 to 5 around the globe in 2021 and beyond”.
Although the show was originally planned for a limited six-month run, two extensions have been made during its course thanks to the public demand, which also led to a UK tour which was performed simoultanesly with the West End version. Apart from the upcoming 2020 travelling production, several international replicas are planned for the next year and beyond, which include Australia and South Africa – apart from discussions with Canada and Asia currently under way.
9 to 5 – The Musical is produced by Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Selladoor Worldwide and Gavin Kalin Productions, in collaboration Benjamin Lowy Productions, Glass Half Full Productions, Showtime Theatre Productions, Hartshorn – Hook Productions, Harmonia Holdings and Kilimanjaro Live.
